As residents from all backgrounds voiced their frustrations, the Bushman people were met not with empathy, but with <strong>police, guns, and intimidation<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the <strong>Western Cape<\/strong>, when a student was beaten and community elders stood up in protest, the police again arrived in full force. Teargas filled the air. Gunshots scattered parents who had only come to demand accountability from a school system failing their children.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And then came the moment of revelation \u2014 a public officer, <strong>Colonel Mere<\/strong>, attempting to dismantle community-built homes without legal process. These homes were not symbols of defiance, but of <strong>dignity<\/strong> \u2014 constructed by families long denied access to government housing and the right to preserve their culture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Despite South Africa\u2019s formal endorsement of the <strong>UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP)<\/strong>, these actions reveal a deliberate disregard for Indigenous sovereignty, heritage, and identity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\ud83e\udeb6 The Rebirth of a Nation<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On <strong>9 August 2025<\/strong>, the <strong>Khoi and San people of Southern Africa<\/strong> stood together to reclaim their birthright.<br>That day marked the rebirth of a nation \u2014 <strong>after over 370 years of injustice<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Weeks later, on <strong>3 September 2025<\/strong>, thousands marched in unity, delivering the <strong>Declaration of Nationhood and the First Law of the Khoi and San People<\/strong> to government officials, asserting their right to <strong>self-determination<\/strong> under the UNDRIP.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The memorandum was received by <strong>Hon. Dulton Adams<\/strong>, Chair of Chairs in the City of Johannesburg, who declared:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI want to thank you today for honouring me to receive this memorandum. I pray that our sovereign Lord God will make a way for us \u2014 that He will intervene for us in this country called South Africa. Amase!\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These Freedom and Unity marches continued across provinces \u2014 from Cape Town to Gauteng \u2014 culminating in the <strong>National Khoi &amp; San Unity Congress<\/strong> on <strong>24 September 2025<\/strong>, which brought together over <strong>5,000 people<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Hon. Adams spoke again:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cGod always backs the underdog. Eyes have not seen, ears have not heard what God has prepared for the First Nation of South Africa.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But while faith carried the people, <strong>the state\u2019s denialism persisted<\/strong>. Historical agreements such as the <em>Grooteschuur Minute<\/em> and <em>CODESA Accords<\/em> never included the Khoi and San \u2014 yet they are used to define modern South African policy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The land belongs to the First People.<\/strong><br><strong>The Khoi and San are its original custodians.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\ud83d\uded1 Defiance in Stellenbosch<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This reality was laid bare again when the <strong>Greater Aboriginal Community Council of Southern Africa (GACCSA)<\/strong> and <strong>March4Freedom Coordinating Committee<\/strong> were forced to <strong>call off their Freedom and Unity March in Stellenbosch<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Not out of fear \u2014 but in defiance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Officials sought to silence the Indigenous march by forbidding <strong>traditional attire, drumming, and chanting<\/strong>, demanding that participants obey local by-laws even when those contradicted the national Constitution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Their message was clear: <em>\u201cThis is Stellenbosch.\u201d<\/em><br>Our response:<br><strong>\u201cYes \u2014 this is still the heart of colonial arrogance.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We will not march under oppression.<br>We will not ask permission to be Indigenous in our own land.<br>We are the <strong>owners of this land<\/strong>, not subjects of a municipality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A court case \u2014 <strong>Western Cape High Court, Case 2025-196180<\/strong> \u2014 now seeks to establish a precedent that no organ of state can ever again dictate how Indigenous people express their culture and identity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe will march again \u2014 on our terms, on our land, in our attire, with our drums, and with our pride.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\ud83d\udca7 The Struggle for Housing and Dignity<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While these events unfolded, the <strong>UN-Habitat Expert Working Group on Housing<\/strong> met in Nairobi to discuss \u201cadequate housing for all.\u201d<br>Ironically, back home, <strong>First Nation families faced evictions<\/strong> on government land meant for development but neglected for decades.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Community leaders <strong>Chief !Xam Keith Duarte<\/strong> and <strong>Shaquille Kasan<\/strong> \u2014 part of the <strong>Gauteng Housing Crisis Committee<\/strong> \u2014 have worked tirelessly to engage government departments since 1996, seeking sustainable housing solutions. Yet, their people remain scattered, marginalized, and systemically excluded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Even as they worked with integrity, they faced unlawful police raids \u2014 the same <strong>Colonel Mere<\/strong> appearing once again in scenes of aggression.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But our leaders stood firm.<br>With the support of <strong>Councillor Juwairiay Kaldine<\/strong>, who confronted the police directly, the community defended its lawful right to housing on designated land.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This moment became a testament to <strong>ethical leadership and self-reflection<\/strong>, guided by the spirit of<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u201c!ke e:\/xarra \/\/ke\u201d \u2014 Diverse People Unite.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\" src=\"https:\/\/iplant.africa\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Indigenous-Peoples-1024x682.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-140\" style=\"width:572px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/iplant.africa\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Indigenous-Peoples-1024x682.jpeg 1024w, https:\/\/iplant.africa\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Indigenous-Peoples-300x200.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/iplant.africa\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Indigenous-Peoples-768x512.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/iplant.africa\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Indigenous-Peoples.jpeg 1280w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\ud83c\udf3f Ancient Wisdom for a Modern World<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe were not poor people. We were happy with what we had and content to take only what we needed.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The words of the San carry a timeless truth \u2014 one that the world desperately needs to remember.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For generations, they lived in harmony with nature, guided by humility and stewardship. Wealth was not measured in possessions, but in <strong>balance<\/strong>.<br>In an age of excess, their way of life reminds us that sustainability begins with restraint and gratitude.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Their story is not only one of survival \u2014 it is a <strong>moral compass<\/strong> for humanity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u270a Why We March<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The <strong>African Caravan to G20<\/strong> is not merely a movement; it is a pilgrimage of <strong>faith, conscience, and community<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We march:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>For <strong>climate justice<\/strong> and the <strong>liberation from economic oppression<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>For <strong>youth empowerment<\/strong>, <strong>digital inclusion<\/strong>, and <strong>indigenous governance<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>For a culture of <strong>peace<\/strong>, built on <strong>Ubuntu<\/strong> and <strong>solidarity<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Our vision is clear:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>To unite Africa through faith, conscience, and action \u2014 mobilizing a continent-wide movement for climate justice, social transformation, and peace rooted in African spirituality, solidarity, and love.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And our mission remains steadfast:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>To journey across Africa, from Ethiopia to South Africa, connecting communities, amplifying indigenous voices, and gathering a collective African mandate for justice and peace to present at the G20 Summit and other global forums.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\ud83c\udf0d Building a Culture of Peace<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The <strong>UN Declaration on a Culture of Peace (1999)<\/strong> reminds us that true peace begins in the <strong>minds of men and women<\/strong>.<br>For Africa, this peace must be grounded in <strong>moral leadership<\/strong>, <strong>cultural restoration<\/strong>, and <strong>faith in action<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We must lead with integrity \u2014 promoting <strong>accountability<\/strong>, <strong>transparency<\/strong>, and <strong>compassion<\/strong>.<br>We must restore the values that once made us rich in spirit \u2014 where community came before consumption, and justice before power.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As H.E. <strong>Mr. Teburoro Tito<\/strong>, former President of Kiribati and one of the founders of the <strong>UN International Day of Conscience<\/strong>, has shared:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cOur moral leadership must connect the islands and the continent \u2014 small nations and great \u2014 for justice and climate peace.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\ud83c\udf05 Conclusion: The Rising of the First Nation<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The struggle of the <strong>Khoi and San<\/strong> is not just about land \u2014 it is about <strong>life, dignity, and divine purpose<\/strong>.<br>It is about <strong>restoring moral order<\/strong> in a world that has forgotten its soul.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As the <strong>African Caravan to G20<\/strong> journeys onward, we carry the spirit of our ancestors, the prayers of our people, and
