Standing With Women in South Africa And Across Africa

Across South Africa, a Call for Justice Grows Louder
Across South Africa, gender-based violence continues to deeply affect women and girls, with alarming rates of abuse, rape, and femicide reported each year.
Beyond the statistics are real lives—women whose safety, dignity, and opportunities are threatened by inequality and harmful social norms.
“Behind every number is a woman whose voice must be heard, whose life must be valued, and whose rights must be protected.”
Yet, amid the pain, voices of change are rising. Across communities, people are uniting to challenge violence and advocate for justice, safety, and respect.

💜 The Power of Purple: A Wave of Digital Protest
In recent weeks, South Africans have begun changing their profile pictures to purple — a symbol of solidarity with survivors of gender-based violence.
This initiative, led by the organization Women for Change, is part of a broader movement culminating in a national shutdown on 21 November.
On that day, women and community will withdraw from paid and unpaid work to demand that GBV and femicide be declared a national disaster.
The color purple has a long history in the struggle for women’s rights — representing resistance, courage, and empowerment.
By painting social media purple, participants are creating a digital wave of protest, echoing across South Africa and beyond — especially as the nation prepares to host the G20 Leaders’ Summit.
“Purple is not just a color — it’s a declaration that silence is no longer an option.”
The African Caravan: Standing in Solidarity
The African Caravan Movement proudly stands in solidarity with women in South Africa and across the continent.
Through education, empowerment, and community action, we are building a generation that values equality, justice, and safety for all.
As we journey across Africa, our message remains clear:
“When women are free, empowered, and respected — Africa truly rises.”
Together, We Rise
We stand united — not only in outrage but in hope and determination.
We commit to building a culture where every girl grows up free from fear, and every woman has the power to thrive.
Together, we rise —
